Pilates is for everyone!
Kyla has a B.F.A. in Dance from the University of California Santa Barbara, and is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NPCT). She has been teaching Pilates and fitness to individuals and groups of all ages and abilities since 2005. She has studied with top Pilates professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area and Boulder, Colorado. Kyla is versed in both the classical style, based on Joseph Pilates' teachings (The Pilates Center) as well as more contemporary (STOTT Pilates and; Balanced Body) styles. Kyla first started practicing Pilates when she was a dance student in New York City at The Alvin Ailey School and Fordham University. The rigors of a full-time dance and liberal arts program were exhilarating, but also a stress to the body, and after two serious back injuries, Kyla turned to Pilates. She experienced first-hand just how healing and strengthening Pilates can be, and decided she wanted to share this with others. After graduating with her BFA in Dance, Kyla went on to pursue her Personal Training and Pilates Certifications. She has since studied with countless continuing education providers in Pilates and complementary modalities to further her education.
Kyla especially enjoys introducing first-timers to the world of Pilates, and her approach is both focused and lighthearted. Seeing her students benefit from Pilates gives her great joy. Kyla likes to help her students find a "flow" in their sessions; As soon as a student is more competent in the repertoire, one exercise can seamlessly flow to another, creating heat in the body and an exhilarating feeling at the end of a session. Learning how to breathe is one of the fundamental lessons in Pilates, and the benefits are exponential as breath capacity increases. You will look forward to your Pilates lessons!
How does it work?
If you are new Pilates, the best way to get started is by working one-on-one with a certified, experienced teacher. It's best to do a set of private sessions before joining a group class. Once you have mastered some of the basics, many people find that they can practice on their own some days, see a Pilates Instructor for private or group instruction another day, and take a group mat class as well. The more diligent you are, the more benefits you will enjoy. But don't let that intimidate you--You will start to feel the benefits right away!
